Getting Started: Download & Install Arbortext Editor

Setting up Arbortext Editor follows the same five-step path as our other PTC installs—check your system, get access, download, install, then get licensed. Licensing works a little differently depending on your setup, so Step 5 changes by license type, then by exactly what you’re trying to do.

Whether you’re installing for the first time, moving to a new computer, or rolling Arbortext out across a team, the steps below have you covered—just choose the option that matches once you reach Step 5.

Step 1: Check Your System Requirements

Before you download anything, confirm your machine is ready for Arbortext Editor.

  • Check supported platforms in the Product Release Calendar on the support site.
  • Plan for roughly 930 MB–1.1 GB disk space.
  • Install Oracle Java 21 or Amazon Corretto 21 separately for publishing features.
  • Review Release Notes for version-specific compatibility.

Step 2: Set Up Your PTC eSupport Account

You’ll need an active PTC eSupport account before you can download the installer. If you haven’t set one up yet, you can do so with any one of the following:

  • Service Contract Number
  • Sales Order Number
  • Site Number

You’ll find these in the confirmation email PTC sent after your purchase. Can’t locate them? Log a case with our support team and we’ll help you track them down.

Step 3: Log a Case

Our support team can help you locate your Service Contract Number, Sales Order Number, or Site Number.

Step 4: Download Arbortext Editor

Once your eSupport account is active, head to PTC’s Software Download page and grab the Arbortext Editor installer for your version.

  • From a downloaded release file: unzip to a temp folder and run setup from the windows folder.
  • From a network server: browse to the drive and run the same setup program.

Step 5: Install Arbortext Editor

Run ArbortextSetup.exe, accept the license agreement, choose products and file associations, pick Typical/Complete/Custom setup, then finish installation. Set your Java path when prompted if needed.

Step 6: Get Your License File

Every Arbortext Editor seat needs a license to run. Start by choosing your license type above (locked or floating), then pick what you need below.

  • Locked — tied to one computer via Host ID.
  • Floating — shared pool on a license server.

Whether it’s a new purchase, a reconfiguration for a new computer, or an update to a license you already have, our team can get it moving.

Request a License File

Choose what you need:

New Install

  2. Get the Host ID from the Licensing Error dialog or cpu_id.exe.
  3. Request your license via My PTC Assistant or through MRC with Sales Order Number and Host ID.
  4. Save the license pack and set PTC_D_LICENSE_FILE when prompted.
  1. Install Arbortext Editor the same way as locked (Steps 3–4).
  2. Get the Host ID of your license server.
  3. Request a floating license for the server Host ID.
  4. Install FlexNet license server software and apply the license pack.
  5. Set client PTC_D_LICENSE_FILE to port@servername.

Update Your License

Request an updated license for your existing server and apply the new license pack on the FlexNet server.

Reconfigure for a New Computer

Get the new computer Host ID, request a license file for the new Host ID, and set PTC_D_LICENSE_FILE on the new machine.

Get the new server Host ID, request a license for the new server, apply it, and update every client’s PTC_D_LICENSE_FILE.

Silent Install

Run msiexec.exe /quiet /i <msi path>Arbortext.msi from an elevated command prompt. Deploy PTC_D_LICENSE_FILE to each machine.

Same silent install command as locked licenses. Deploy PTC_D_LICENSE_FILE centrally with your server port@servername.
